How do I select students for the programme?

What are the student targeting criteria?

The Brilliant Club requires that at least 55% of the students registered on the programme meet at least one of our student targeting criteria. These criteria are: having no parental history of higher education in the UK, being in receipt of Pupil Premium, and residing in IDACI decile 1-4, which is a postcode measure for deprivation. (For Wales, this is students in receipt of Pupil Deprivation Grant, and residing lowest two quintiles of WIMD (1-4))

How do I decide which students to select for the programme?

As this is a challenging programme, the most successful placements are those for which lead teachers choose students who have demonstrated the attributes below as opposed to their interest in a specific subject. Your Programme Officer will be able to support you if you have any questions about student selection:

Academic record: consistently achieved higher than their peers in one or more subjects and/or are acknowledged by teachers as having the potential to do so.

Attitude to work: consistently apply themselves with maximum effort both in class and homework, and use feedback to further their learning.

Passion for learning: enjoy independent work and pursue new areas of learning and are actively involved in the wider life of the school.

As noted above, we do also require that at least 55% of students enrolled on the programme meet one or more of our targeting criteria. Please note that we expect schools to cover the full cost of enrolling students onto the Programme so as not to risk adding barriers to participation.

Please see below for further information to help inform your decisions.
